Google introduced Google Vids, a new AI-powered video-making tool a couple of months back. The company has now started rolling it out to select Google Workspace users. Google Vids enables users to create workplace and marketing videos using Google’s Gemini AI model, simplifying video creation through file inputs from Google Drive and user-provided descriptions.
With Google Vids, users can either create videos from scratch or start with a premade template. The tool includes a "Help me create" feature where Gemini can suggest scripts, allowing for a quick first draft. Users are also able to personalise their videos by incorporating their own photos, videos, or audio files directly within Google Vids, giving users flexibility beyond the initial templates.
The platform also supports a virtual recording studio where users can record their own video or audio tracks. This allows creators to add voice overs or record personal video content directly into their projects.
How to use itGoogle Vids functions as a slideshow creator, compiling images, video snippets, and audio based on the chosen files or input descriptions. This setup differs from other AI video tools such as Runway's Gen-2 and OpenAI’s Sora, which generate more intricate, movie-like videos. Instead, Google Vids draws from files and text-based instructions to construct visually structured presentations suited for business and marketing needs.
As part of Google Workspace, Google Vids integrates real-time collaboration capabilities, allowing team members to work together on video projects. Multiple contributors can edit and provide input on the same video, enhancing teamwork for business-focused video creation.
AvailabilityGoogle Vids is available to users with Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Essentials, Enterprise Essentials, and Enterprise Essentials Plus memberships within Google Workspace. Google initially announced the feature in April, aligning it with the release of its Gemini AI model.
