Location sharing is one of the most crucial data for apps and websites to offer several services and also to showcase local content depending upon your query. For instance, if you are browsing for a Google website, the location access makes it go to the India website automatically or redirects it in case you land in some other country. That said, it isn’t as simple as it looks. Advertisers and marketing companies rely on this data to offer curated ads and recommendations depending upon your other data.
Until now, web browsers on PC had only two options for location permission – on or off. And, that’s it. Once you grant the location permission to a particular website, it will have it always – unless you manually deny it.
That’s no longer the case – at least if you are a Microsoft Edge user.
Edge has this new “Just This Time” option now for location permission popup that lets users allow the permission one-time only and it gets disabled once you close the tab. It asks again if you open the website or access that service again.
Certainly, you can do this on your iPhone or Android phone as the operating systems come with this feature baked right into the settings. On PC, things are different and the permission control center isn’t as intuitive as on mobile devices.
Apple Safari has it, but not as intuitive as Edge. Safari has this feature, but the option is for “one-day” not “one-time” as it is there in Edge. This means, Safari will allow location access to a website or service for a day (if the “Re Cember my decision for one day” is selected.
Edge allows one-time access and that’s something much better as an option.Google Chrome should get it too
Considering Google Chrome is the most used web browser in the world, the feature will make more sense in the browser and it is also more privacy-centric and offers users more control over their location data while browsing.
