Google’s Pixel 10 launch wasn’t just about new phones, it turned into a playful roast of Apple.The event, set up like a late-night show with Jimmy Fallon as host, kept things light and fun. But the real spotlight was on Google executive Adrienne Lofton, who mixed product talk with jokes aimed at Apple. She poked fun at the way Apple locks users into its ecosystem, saying Android is about “true freedom of choice.”

The biggest laugh came when Google introduced Pixelsnap, a feature that makes it easier to switch phones. Lofton casually mentioned that the Pixel 10 works perfectly with Apple’s MagSafe accessories, which led Fallon to joke about her saying “the A-word.” Lofton doubled down, saying Google was confident enough to name anyone on stage, rival or not.

Lofton also took on the age-old green vs blue bubble fight between Android and iPhone users. For years, Android texts showed up as green on iPhones, making group chats messy and photos blurry. Now that both Apple and Google use RCS messaging, those problems are gone. You can react with emojis, share clear photos and videos, and finally enjoy smooth group chats across devices. “The whole bubble conversation is silly and tired,” Lofton said. “At Google, we’re done with it.”

What stood out was how confident Google seemed. Instead of playing it safe or quietly comparing itself to Apple, the company leaned into humor and honesty. The rest of the show focused on Google’s new software features and had some surprise celebrity appearances, but the tone was set early: this was Google showing it’s not afraid to stand tall next to Apple.

For once, an Android launch didn’t feel like it was happening in Apple’s shadow. It felt bold, cheeky, and refreshingly different and that’s what made it memorable.
