Google Photos Remix: How to use the new AI feature to turn your photos into cartoons

Google Photos is rolling out an experimental feature called Remix that lets users transform ordinary pictures into striking art styles. Powered by generative AI, the tool can turn selfies, portraits, or even pet photos into versions resembling 3D animation, anime, sketch drawings, or comic book panels.

The process is straightforward and designed for casual users:

• Open the app – On your mobile device, launch the Google Photos app.
• Start Remix – Tap Create new at the top right, then select Remix.
• Try the feature – Hit Try now to begin.
• Pick a style – Choose from available options like 3D animation, anime, sketch, or comic book.
• Choose a photo – Select the picture you want to edit. You can swap it later using Change photo.
• Generate results – Tap Generate to apply the chosen effect.
• Save or share – Store the image with Save or send it out directly using Share.

For different variations in the same style, the Regenerate option provides fresh takes. Since Remix is still experimental, results may not perfectly align with the source photo. Uploading clear, well-lit portraits or front-facing images tends to yield better outcomes.
