Fitbit, the wearable technology brand owned by Google, has introduced a new feature for its users named Fitbit Labs. This is an experimental feature that has been in development for the last few months and improves the app's health and fitness analytics. In a community blog post, Fitbit mentioned this initial opt-in test in Labs called ‘Insight Explorer.’
It is currently available to select Fitbit premium subscribers and they will notice the new Labs banner in the app’s ‘You’ tab. Interested users can either join immediately or sign up for a waitlist if the option is still not visible.
Fitbit Labs utilizes Google's Gemini AI models. It analyzes user’s Fitbit health readings or data, such as sleep patterns, activity levels, and heart rate, to offer personalized insights to improve their health. The insights will be provided in an easy-to-understand format, including charts and graphs. It will help users understand the connections between their health metrics and provide actionable advice.
Fitbit has also indicated that more similar features will be tested through Fitbit Labs in the future with the help of Google’s Gemini AI. It focuses on integrating Google’s latest AI innovations into the Fitbit experience. However, these Labs features will be available to Fitbit premium users initially.
The best part is that with the help of the Gemini AI chatbot, Fitbit Labs will be capable of answering questions regarding certain types of health data, such as activity, sleep, and heart health readings.
