Google is reportedly planning to launch its next-generation Large Language Model (LLM) – Gemini 2.0 – later this year. The Verge has reported that the Android maker is planning to announce the Gemini 2.0 in December.

Apart from this, the report also highlights that the company is planning to make it available widely soon after its launch.

Gemini 2.0: What’s changing

Based on the report, there’s not much that’s going to change with the Gemini 2.0 update. However, there’s no information available on what new capabilities Gemini 2.0 will bring to the table. The newsletter highlights ““model isn’t showing the performance gains the Demis Hassabis-led team had hoped for”.

We expect that the Gemini 2.0 will bring some performance improvements across the different Gemini models, faster processing and better contextual awareness is also something we can expect to see.

Coming to the availability part, the “widely rollout” might take a while to rach all users and developers.

That’s not it. Google is also expected to announce its Project Astra and bring camera/vision capabilities to Gemini Live.

Meanwhile, OpenAI is also expected to announce its next-generation AI large language model later this year.
