Google has announced an update to its Personal Intelligence feature on Gemini, expanding its availability to a wider set of users in the US. The feature, which was earlier limited to AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers, is now being rolled out to users on the free plan as well. The move brings personalised AI capabilities across more Google services.
What is changing
With this update, Personal Intelligence is now accessible to all users in the US across AI Mode in Search, the Gemini app, and Gemini in Chrome. Google said the expansion is based on early feedback, where users showed interest in more personalised responses and contextual assistance while using AI tools.
The feature connects information across Google apps such as Gmail and Google Photos to offer responses tailored to individual usage patterns. This allows users to ask more specific and contextual questions without needing to manually provide details each time.
How Personal Intelligence works
Personal Intelligence works by linking user data from different Google services to provide more relevant outputs. For example, it can help users find products based on past purchases or suggest travel plans using previous bookings and stored information.
Google has clarified that the feature is opt-in, meaning users have control over whether they want to enable it. They can choose which apps to connect and can disconnect them at any time.
The company also emphasised that Gemini and AI Mode do not directly train on personal data such as Gmail inboxes or photo libraries. Instead, training is limited to prompts and responses to improve the system over time.
The update enables several practical use cases. Users can receive tailored shopping suggestions based on their preferences and purchase history. It can also assist in troubleshooting devices by identifying products through purchase records and offering relevant solutions.
In travel scenarios, the feature can suggest options based on schedules, preferences, and location details, such as recommending food choices during a layover with timing considerations.
What it means
The expansion of Personal Intelligence signals Google’s push to make AI tools more context-aware and accessible to a broader audience. By bringing these features to free users, the company is increasing the reach of its personalised AI ecosystem across its platforms.
