After beta testing the Grok AI app in December 2024, Elon Musk’s xAI has now launched the standalone chatbot app of the service for iPhone users. It is currently available in the beta phase for United States users and offers the same capabilities as the version integrated into the popular social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).
Grok AI app now available for iPhone users: Key details
xAI began testing the Grok app for iOS in December across several countries and it builds X’s rollout of a free tier for the AI assistant. Previously, access to Grok was tied to an X Premium subscription, starting at $8 per month. However, the current free tier model allows 10 requests every two hours and three image analysis requests per day. These restrictions are also applicable to iOS app users as well.
Apart from its text chatting abilities like ChatGPT or Gemini, you can use Grok to generate high-quality AI images or ask questions on real-time developments as it sources the information from X. The Grok app also lets you upload files and images for AI analysis and helps in creating images using text prompts, similar to what Dall-E 3 offers.
The Grok Ai app also has neat functionalities like integration with iOS Control Center, Siri, and Shortcuts. Additionally, there's a handy widget for the Lock Screen. As for the Android version of the Grok AI app, there is still no clarity on its future release.
