Bought the new iPhone Air? Here's how to activate eSIM on Jio, Airtel, and Vi

If you've got onboard to the Apple's newly launched slimmest iPhone -- the iPhone Air, then you must have come to know that the phone is eSIM only and you'll need to transfer your physical SIM to eSIM to start using the cellular services on the  phone. If you are wondering how to do that, here's how detailed guide on how to activate eSIM services on Airtel, Jio and Vi networks.

What you'll need

A valid email ID is required since operators deliver the QR code or activation link there. Keep the iPhone Air connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data while downloading the eSIM profile. As per operator and regulatory norms, SMS services may be unavailable for up to 24 hours after the switch.

Jio: Two activation options

Jio offers both app and SMS flows for eSIM activation. In the app/self-care method, users update and verify their email, enter the EID, and complete identity verification through an automated IVR call from +91 2235072222. Missed calls can be retried by sending “RECALL” to 199.

Through SMS, users send GETESIM to 199, consent by replying ‘1’, and finish verification via IVR. After confirmation, the eSIM profile or QR code is delivered to the registered email/SMS. Activation usually takes about two hours.

Airtel: In-app request

Airtel customers can use the Airtel Thanks app under Home > Shortcuts > Upgrade to eSIM. After entering the EID, OTP verification is completed on the registered number. Airtel representatives call within ten minutes for confirmation. About two hours later, users can download the profile in device settings, activate the new profile, remove the physical SIM, and restart. Apple Watch pairing is available for Airtel Postpaid without additional subscription charges.

Vi: Via app or SMS

For postpaid users, the Vi app allows activation under Help > Raise a service request > Activate eSIM. After entering the EID and verifying OTP, the eSIM profile is sent via notification or email within 15 minutes.

Alternatively, prepaid and postpaid users can send eSIM to 199 (DeviceType: 1 for iOS, 2 for Android). After confirming with “ESIMY” and approving a verification call, the profile is sent from esim@vodafoneidea.com. Service is unavailable in HP, JK, OR, NE, and Assam circles.
