Apple Vision Pro will turn two in February, and speculation around its successor suggests a performance boost that may exceed earlier expectations. Reports now indicate that Apple Vision Pro 2 could ship with the yet-to-be-announced M5 chip, rather than the M4 many had predicted.
The first-generation model runs on the M2 chip, which was Apple’s latest when the headset was announced, although the M3 arrived in other devices before Vision Pro went on sale. Initially, rumours pointed to the M5 for the second generation, but more recent claims had settled on the M4 — a step behind Apple’s newest silicon, mirroring the original’s timing.
According to MacRumors, references in Apple’s own code — allegedly shared by mistake — point to the M5 chip powering Vision Pro 2. The same leak also suggests that the Apple Watch Series 11 will see no speed upgrade, while the next iPad mini could launch with the A19 Pro, a jump from the A17 Pro in the current model which already supports Apple Intelligence.
While the code snippets offer intriguing clues, it’s unclear how much of Apple’s future product roadmap they truly reveal. The leak reportedly came from internal information accidentally embedded in public code, but the details remain limited. With no official confirmation, all eyes will be on Apple’s next announcements for the Vision Pro and iPad mini to see if the M5 prediction holds true.
