Apple could soon be adding a brand-new gadget to its lineup: smart glasses. According to tech journalist Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter, the company is working on a new project, codenamed N50, that will bring its growing AI expertise into a stylish pair of glasses — and hopefully at a price that doesn’t hurt your wallet.
While Apple’s ultimate dream is to build full-fledged augmented reality (AR) glasses, that’s still a few years away. For now, it looks like they are taking a more practical step, creating something similar to the Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses. If you’re not familiar, Meta’s glasses don’t have displays but come packed with features like cameras, microphones, speakers, and even an AI assistant — all tucked inside a regular-looking frame.
Apple's version will likely follow the same path. Gurman says the idea is to turn the glasses into an "Apple Intelligence" device that can understand the environment around you and offer helpful information. But it won’t offer the full AR experience just yet.
Interestingly, Apple is still deciding whether to allow users to take photos with the glasses, as privacy concerns are a big factor.
And that's not all — Apple is also working on a new version of AirPods that might have built-in cameras, using the same "Visual Intelligence" technology. If all goes as planned, we could see both the smart glasses and the new AirPods around 2027.
