The iPhone 17 series is anticipated to launch in September this year, which will likely include iPhone 17 Pro, Pro Max, and an all-new model—the iPhone 17 Air. This means that the company is likely to phase out the Plus model from this year, and the iPhone 17 Air is expected to bring a more streamlined flagship smartphone with a thinner body. As we wait to get a glimpse of these new iPhones, rumours surrounding the lineup have started to circulate rapidly, revealing the expected display and performance features.
Apple iPhone 17 series: Expected display and performance upgradesAccording to a new leak by Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS), the iPhone 17 series will get a major screen upgrade from last year’s models. The translated version of his new post claims that the iPhone 17 series will have "high refresh rates across the board." However, in response to a commenter's question about the standard iPhone 17, the tipster has suggested to "lower your expectations appropriately," which means that it may not have as big upgrades as the rest of the models.
This means that the 120Hz screen of the iPhone 17 and presumably the iPhone 17 Air won't be as advanced as the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max smartphones. It is likely that the base iPhone 17 smartphones may not support ProMotion technology, which is an LTPO feature, offering a refresh rate of 120Hz to 1Hz. Further, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air could also support up to a 90Hz refresh rate.
Moreover, DCS adds that the A19 Pro on the iPhone 17 Pro series will be a similar 3nm chipset like the A18 and A18 Pro chips inside the iPhone 16 series. However, it will likely score over 4,000 points on the Geekbench 6 single-core CPU benchmark, and over 10,000 on the multi-core version. This means we could see at least a 15% increase in power from the previous iPhones, making the iPhone 17 Pro series much more powerful than current Android flagships.
