Apple released its first tracking accessory item, the AirTag, more than three years ago, and it appears that the Cupertino-based tech giant is working on a new model. Apple is expected to build some privacy improvements into its next AirTag 2 and it could arrive alongside the iPad Air refresh and the new M4 MacBook Air models in the Spring. Apple’s AirTag 2 could be released in Spring 2025: All the details
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman via his Power On newsletter, the upcoming AirTag 2 has moved to the ‘manufacturing tests’ stage and could be released in early 2025. Further, it Apple could also reportedly consider removing the speaker from the AirTag to reduce instances of the device being used for stalking or unknown tracking.
This new AirTag model is codenamed B589, and according to the report, it will soon come to markets, with three decent improvements. These include a better range, an upgraded wireless chip, and improved privacy improvements. The current model has an Ultra-Wideband (U1) SoC and the second-generation model is expected to use a U2 chipset.
Additionally, Gurman notes that Apple will launch a new smart home display alongside the next-generation AirTag in 2025. The tech giant also plans to release new versions of the iPad Air, entry-level iPad, MacBook Air, Mac Pro, Mac Studio, and iPhone SE in 2025.
