The Apple Watch has saved many lives. People living alone have received help after falling to the ground. People with irregular heart rhythms have sought medical attention at hospitals and treated dangerous heart conditions—all thanks to the Apple Watch and its efficient trackers. Among the many lives saved by the Apple Watch is the life of Apple CEO Tim Cook’s father, as Tim candidly revealed in a podcast titled Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware, how the watch came to his father’s rescue.
When asked during the interview if Cook has ever received a medical alert on his Apple Watch, Cook said, “I haven't, but my father, when he was alive, he fell in the house, and he was living alone. And the other thing the watch does is send a notification to your family and to emergency services if you fall, it detects the fall because of the accelerometer,” he said. “It notified emergency services, and they came out to the house. He didn't respond to the door and so they kicked the door down — and it was a good thing they did because he was not conscious at the time.”
Cook also shared a hilarious anecdote about how his father didn’t have many praises for him, despite Cook leading the company that makes the smartwatch. When asked by the podcast hosts if his father was proud of him, Cook quipped, “No, he was focused on the door, to be honest.” He added that his father was upset because the rescue team had kicked in the door of their home.
