Apple, Amazon, Microsoft and others: Tech giants helping fund Trump’s $300 million White House ballroom

The East Wing of the White House is being razed to make room for a grand 90,000 sq ft ballroom — and the bill, pegged at a staggering $300 million (around Rs 2,500 crore), is being footed not by taxpayers but by Donald Trump’s friends in tech, defence and crypto.

The White House has confirmed that a long list of corporate heavyweights is helping fund Donald Trump’s new $300 million ballroom project. The donors include Silicon Valley giants Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Google and Meta; defence contractors like Lockheed Martin, Palantir and Booz Allen Hamilton; and telecom firms T-Mobile and Comcast.

Billionaires who bankrolled Trump’s 2024 campaign are also part of the effort. Casino magnate Miriam Adelson, Blackstone’s Stephen Schwarzman, oil tycoon Harold Hamm, and crypto twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss have all contributed to the construction fund. Howard Lutnick, the current commerce secretary and former Cantor Fitzgerald CEO, also features among the donors.

Demolition of the East Wing began earlier this week, with the new ballroom — reportedly inspired by Trump’s luxury properties — expected to become the largest entertainment space in presidential history. Trump said the project is “being paid for 100% by me and some friends of mine,” adding that “nothing of this magnitude has ever been done at the White House.”

The president hosted a private gala for sponsors in the East Room last week, even as the federal government remains partially shut down. Lavish décor, chandeliers and a string quartet underscored the irony of a glitzy celebration amid unpaid public workers.

Social media has already reacted in typical fashion — memes of Trump on a golden wrecking ball circulated widely after images showed demolition work beginning on the historic East Wing.
