Google is making a small but useful change to its phone dialer app, which would make organising call history. The app’s Recents tab has always listed all incoming, outgoing, and missed calls in one continuous stream without categorizing them with call filters such as missed, received, called, or spam. However, with the latest update, Google has brought a design overhaul at the top search bar of the Phone app, which now spans all four tabs.
Google’s Phone app gets a useful makeover: Key detailsAs spotted by 9to5Google, with the latest Google Phone app update, call filters are now available in the application that allows users to sort their call history by missed calls, calls from saved contacts, and even spam-marked numbers. This means users can now quickly check important missed calls without scrolling through multiple call entries or filtering out calls from unknown numbers.
These filters will be available in the ‘Recent’ tab of the Phone app, and the UI update will supposedly arrive first on the Pixel 9 series. Moreover, the new look of the Phone app is taller and matches Google's Material 3 design language, which is already seen in other first-party apps like Gmail or Sheets.
Notably, Google has not included an option to filter calls based solely on incoming or outgoing status for now. However, we may see these options in future updates. Android users are advised to update the Google Phone app and check to see whether these features are live on their phones or not.
