The Android 17 beta update is now available for supported Pixel smartphones and tablets, marking an earlier-than-usual preview cycle for Google’s next mobile operating system. After facing delays with previous Android launches, the company has revised its release timeline to push beta builds sooner in the year.

The beta version is currently limited to Pixel devices and is distributed through an over-the-air update after users enrol in the official Android Beta Program linked to their Google account. Google has advised users not to install the beta on primary devices, as early builds may contain bugs that impact daily usage.

How to download Android 17 beta

Users with eligible Pixel devices can install the Android 17 beta by following these steps:

Sign in using the Google account linked to your Pixel smartphone or tablet

Visit the Android Beta Program page

Select the eligible device from the list

Accept the terms and proceed with enrolment

Check for the over-the-air update in device settings and download the beta version

Once enrolled, the update appears like a regular system update and installs without requiring a manual flash.

Supported devices

Google has confirmed Android 17 beta availability for the following Pixel models:

Pixel 6

Pixel 6 Pro

Pixel 6a

Pixel 7

Pixel 7 Pro

Pixel 7a

Pixel Tablet

Pixel Fold

Pixel 8

Pixel 8 Pro

Pixel 8a

Pixel 9

Pixel 9 Pro

Pixel 9 Pro XL

Pixel 9 Pro Fold

Pixel 9a

Pixel 10

Pixel 10 Pro

Pixel 10 Pro XL

Pixel 10 Pro Fold

Older Pixel devices outside this list are not part of the current beta rollout.

The first Android 17 beta build focuses mainly on system stability and early platform changes rather than major user-facing features. Google is expected to introduce more functionality in upcoming beta releases over the next few months.

As with previous Android previews, users can exit the beta programme at any time, though downgrading may require a data wipe depending on the version installed. The stable Android 17 release is expected later in 2026, likely alongside the next Pixel smartphone lineup.
