Telecom service provider Airtel appears to be down for thousands of users across the country. Several users reached on to social media platforms to report the issue about not being able to make calls and access data services using their Airtel number. According to outage tracking platforms, problem reports spiked sharply in the afternoon, leaving many customers unable to access data or make calls.
Outage detailsData from Downdetector showed a sudden surge in complaints starting around 4 PM, with over 2,500 reports logged at its peak. The baseline number of reports for Airtel usually stays in the low double digits, highlighting the scale of the disruption. The reported issues were widespread and not limited to a single city, with users from metro areas such as Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi sharing concerns online.
The outage reports were split across services: 56% of users flagged mobile phone issues, 26% highlighted problems with mobile internet, and 18% reported a complete lack of signal. The live outage map also reflected large clusters of complaints across urban centers, suggesting that both voice and data services were affected.
Issues users are facingUser comments on forums and outage portals reveal the extent of frustration. Several subscribers complained about losing mobile data access even after recent recharges, while others noted that their SIMs were not connecting to the internet at all. Customers in Bangalore said that Airtel’s 4G service had been down for extended periods, with some adding that the situation was threatening their ability to work online.
A few users compared Airtel’s performance unfavorably with rivals, suggesting they might port out if service reliability does not improve. Others said they faced signal drops despite being in urban locations where coverage is normally stable.
Airtel’s responseIn a statement posted on social media, Airtel acknowledged the outage. “We are currently experiencing a network outage, our team is actively working to resolve the issue and restore services promptly. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused,” the company said.
“Our customers from Delhi-NCR are experiencing some voice calling issues for the past hour or so. Significant part of the issue has already been resolved and our engineers are at work to resolve this fully. We deeply regret any inconvenience", says Airtel Spokesperson.
