Accenture CEO Julie Sweet has said that employees who want promotions at the company must show proficiency in using artificial intelligence (AI) tools. She stated that AI has become part of how the consulting firm operates and is now integrated into employee workflows.
Sweet shared these remarks during the Rapid Response podcast, where she discussed how the company is incorporating AI across operations and reskilling employees to adapt to changing workplace requirements.
AI skills linked to promotions
According to Sweet, employees must adapt to the technologies used within the organisation if they want to move up the ranks.
She said that using AI tools is now part of daily work at Accenture. Employees who aim for promotions are expected to demonstrate that they can use these tools effectively in their roles.
Sweet added that the shift toward AI adoption did not happen suddenly. The company spent several years preparing employees for the transition by building systems and tools that could be used across teams.
She said the organisation focused on ensuring that AI tools were accessible and integrated into work processes before making them an expected skill for employees.
Accenture’s AI reskilling plan
Accenture has been investing in AI training and workforce transformation. In 2023, the company announced a three-year plan worth $3 billion aimed at integrating AI into its operations.
The initiative included hiring, training, and acquisitions to expand the company’s AI capabilities. One of the targets was to build a workforce of around 80,000 professionals with AI-related expertise.
Accenture currently employs more than 770,000 people worldwide.
The company has also invested in programmes designed to retrain employees and help them adapt to new technologies used in consulting, analytics, and enterprise operations.
Sweet compared the current AI shift to earlier transitions when computers became essential in office environments.
She said that companies once required employees to learn how to use computers because it was necessary to complete work. In the same way, AI tools are now becoming a standard part of how work is done.
Sweet also noted that some organisations face challenges when adopting AI because they treat it as an additional tool rather than restructuring workflows around it.
She said companies that want to benefit from AI must be willing to redesign processes and integrate the technology into how work is performed.
