Rahul Dravid's son Anvay set to audition for U-19 World Cup

Indian cricket icon Rahul Dravid's younger son Anvay Dravid has been named in Team C for the BCCI’s Under-19 Challenger Trophy. The tournament will be played in Hyderabad from November 5 to 11.

The BCCI Challenger Trophy is important for aspiring cricketers as it serves as a precursor for the next edition of U-19 World Cup, which will be played in Zimbabwe and Namibia next year.

Anvay was recently seen in action at the recently concluded Vinoo Mankad Trophy. He had then amassed 220 runs from six matches and led Karnataka to the quarterfinals, where they endured a defeat against eventual champions Hyderabad. Anvay starred with an unbeaten 82 apart from a half-century during Karnataka's campaign at the tournament. Under his leadership, the team won four of the five matches to finish second in the group stage before crashing out in the first stage of the knockouts.

He scored 82* against Himachal Pradesh, batting at No 4 and helped Karnataka cross the line while chasing 236. He had scored 63 off 75 in the group stage match against Chandigarh, which Karnataka lost.

Anvay has been named the wicket-keeper in Team C, which also features Saurashtra's Yuvraj Gohil as an alternative.

Left-handed batter Harvansh Singh and Mumbai’s Abhigyan Kundu are other two wicketkeepers in the U-19 circuit and are rated high in the pecking order.

Kundu, on the other hand, is the vice-captain of Team A, which is captained by Punjab's Vihaan Malhotra. Vedant Trivedi will be leading Team B with Harvansh serving his deputy.

Aaron George, who led Hyderabad to Vinoo Mankad Trophy with a perfect record, is the captain of Team C. Punjab’s Aaryan Yadav is the team's vice-captain.

Chandrahas Dash, who is a key performer for Bengal, will be leading Team D.

If we switch focus to Rahul's elder son Samit Dravid, he was included in India’s U-19 squad for the bilateral home series against Australia which was held in Pondicherry and Chennai in 2024. However, Samit remained absent from the fixtures due to an injury.
