The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is contemplating a significant change to the Indian cricket team support staff. According to the Telegraph report, head coach Gautam Gambhir's position is secure but assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and bowling coach Morne Morkel are not.
The report states that the BCCI will begin a review following the conclusion of the England series, but no significant decisions will be made until after the Asia Cup in September. Although Gambhir selected both Morkel and Ten Doeschate, their contributions have been little as the BCCI seeks to alter the support personnel.
BCCI 'doesn't want a change at the top, especially in a team which is in transition,' reads the report about Gambhir's job.
“The coaches always talk of balance but keeping a world-class wrist spinner like Kuldeep Yadav out has had disastrous consequences,” a BCCI source told The Telegraph.
Anshul Kamboj's selection and Kuldeep Yadav's absence from the fourth Test have drawn a lot of criticism from both fans and experts.
Shiv Sundar Das, the representative for the East Zone, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are also being watched by the BCCI. Regarding selection concerns, there has been discussion about potential differences of choice between the players and the team management, with Kuldeep's omission emerging as a major topic.
According to the report, the BCCI is mostly upset with Morkel because they feel that the former South Africa cricket player has not been able to "nurture even a single pacer."
Changes from the BCCI are anticipated as India are scheduled to play the West Indies in their next Test series.
