Varuthini Ekadashi is one of the highly sacred fasting days dedicated to Lord Vishnu. In 2025, Varuthini Ekadashi will be observed on Thursday, April 24, followed by Parana (fast-breaking) on Friday, April 25.

Varuthini Ekadashi falls during the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon). It is observed in the month of Vaishakha according to the North Indian Purnimanta calendar and Chaitra as per the South Indian Amanta calendar. Despite these calendar differences, Varuthini Ekadashi is observed on the same day across India.

This Ekadashi holds special spiritual importance and is believed to bestow protection (Varuthini means ‘armoured’ or ‘protected’), fortune, and liberation from sins.

Who Should Observe Varuthini Ekadashi?

At times, Ekadashi may be observed over two consecutive days. In such cases:

• Householders (Smartha) should fast on the first day.
• The second day (Vaishnava Ekadashi) is typically observed by sannyasis (renunciates), widows, or those seeking moksha (liberation).
• Devotees of Lord Vishnu who are deeply committed may choose to fast on both days for enhanced blessings.

• Wake up early and take a holy bath.
• Offer prayers to Lord Vishnu with Tulsi leaves, incense, and lamps.
• Recite Vishnu Sahasranama or chant Lord Vishnu’s mantras.
• Avoid grains, rice, lentils, and non-vegetarian food.
• Engage in charity and donate essentials to the needy.
• Maintain a peaceful and spiritual environment throughout the day.

• Offers divine protection and spiritual strength.
• Brings peace, prosperity, and blessings from Lord Vishnu.
