Guwahati, Assam [India], May 26: Thousands of devotees thronged the sacred Kamakhya Devi Temple in Guwahati on Monday morning to mark the auspicious occasion of Somvati Amavasya 2025. Observed with deep reverence in Hinduism, Somvati Amavasya is considered highly significant for performing ancestral rituals, spiritual cleansing, and seeking divine blessings.
Neeraj Pathak, a pilgrim from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, shared his experience, saying, “I feel very good. Visiting Kamakhya Devi on such an auspicious day brings a different kind of peace.” His companion, Neelam Pathak, added, “I liked it very much; it was very relaxing and spiritually fulfilling.” Ashwini Kumar from Delhi said, “We come here often. Today, we bathed in the Ganga two or three times. It feels divine—the whole atmosphere is filled with spirituality.”
Umesh Kaushik from Haryana said, “Somvati Amavasya is an auspicious Nakshatra. We are blessed to bathe in the Ganges today. It is a moment of great spiritual merit.” People also feed cows, donate clothes and food, and chant Vedic mantras to amplify their spiritual gains.
