Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), June 11: On the spiritually significant occasion of Jyeshtha Purnima 2025, thousands of devotees gathered at riverbanks across Uttar Pradesh, especially at the Sangam in Prayagraj, to take a holy dip in the River Ganga and perform traditional rituals. Celebrated on the full moon day of the Jyeshtha month in the Hindu calendar, this sacred day holds immense religious value, believed to bring spiritual purification, prosperity, and divine blessings.

Before sunrise, large crowds had already reached the Ganga ghats in Prayagraj, where rituals such as bathing, daan (charity), and prayer offerings began with deep devotion. The convergence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers at the Sangam became a hub of spiritual activity, echoing with bhajans and Vedic chants.

Rohini Sharma, a pilgrim from Fatehpur, said, “We come every year to Prayagraj on Jyeshtha Purnima. It is believed that taking a dip in the Ganga on this day removes sins and grants peace, happiness, and wealth for the family.”

The day becomes even more auspicious as it coincides with the Jyeshtha Nakshatra, a powerful Vedic constellation. According to Hindu belief, performing spiritual acts—Snan (ritual bath), daan, and upvaas (fasting)—on this day bestows the blessings of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. It is also considered beneficial for ancestral peace and the wellbeing of future generations.

Kripashankar Tiwari, a retired police sub-inspector, shared, “Bathing in the Ganga under the Jyeshtha Nakshatra brings about spiritual cleansing and inner upliftment. It’s a day when the heavens truly open up for us.”

Along with taking the sacred bath, devotees engaged in acts of charity, distributing food, clothes, and offerings to Brahmins and the underprivileged. Devotees also lit diyas (lamps) and recited devotional hymns seeking divine grace and family wellbeing.

“I took a dip at the Sangam, offered daan to Brahmins, and prayed for my family's good health and peace,” said another pilgrim, expressing a sentiment echoed by many on the ghats. Apart from Prayagraj, Ayodhya also saw a surge of devotees on Jyeshtha Purnima. Large numbers visited the Ram Janmabhoomi temple, seeking blessings from Ram Lalla and taking part in special prayers and rituals.
