Rituals Observed on Radha Ashtami

  1. Abhishekam: The idol of Radha is ceremonially bathed with a mixture of milk, curd, honey, ghee, and holy water, symbolising purification and devotion.
  2. Offering Prasad: Devotees prepare and offer sweets, fruits, and delicacies dear to Radha. This prasad is later distributed among devotees.
  3. Singing Bhajans and Kirtans: Devotional songs and kirtans are sung in praise of Radha, celebrating her divine love for Krishna.
  4. Reading Scriptures: Texts such as the "Gita Govinda," which narrate the divine love between Radha and Krishna, are read and recited.
Puja Vidhi
Devotees begin the day by taking an early morning bath. A sacred altar is prepared where the idol of Radha is placed, adorned in beautiful clothes and ornaments. A diya (lamp) is lit, and prayers are offered. The worship should ideally take place at midday. Devotees often observe a fast on this day, either completely abstaining from food or consuming a single meal.

Radha Ashtami holds great significance in Hinduism as it marks the birth of Goddess Radha, an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. Radha is revered for her deep devotion to Lord Krishna and is worshipped with immense devotion by millions of devotees across the world.
