Manikarnika Snan 2025: Significance

According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Vishnu once visited Manikarnika Ghat in Kashi (Varanasi) to worship Lord Shiva on Vaikuntha Chaturdashi. Pleased with Lord Vishnu’s devotion, Mahadev granted Him blessings and proclaimed that anyone who bathes at this sacred ghat on this day would attain moksha and be freed from worldly suffering.

The Manikarnika Snan is believed to purify the soul and remove all past and present sins. The Puranas mention that Lord Shiva himself whispers the Taraka Mantra into the ears of those who are cremated here, ensuring their liberation.

Spiritual Importance of Manikarnika Ghat

Manikarnika Ghat, located along the banks of the River Ganga, is known as the Mokshadayini Ghat-the place that grants salvation. It is one of the oldest and most sacred cremation sites in India, symbolizing the eternal truth of life and death.

The ghat’s sacred fire is believed to have been burning continuously for centuries. Cremation performed here is said to free the soul from the cycle of rebirth, granting eternal peace. This ghat is also called Mahasmashana, the Great Cremation Ground, where Lord Shiva himself is believed to reside.

Manikarnika Snan 2025: Rituals and Puja Vidhi

Devotees begin the day by rising during the Brahma Muhurta, meditating upon Lord Shiva, and proceeding to take a holy dip in the Ganga at Manikarnika Ghat. The bath is ideally performed during the last quarter of the night, just before sunrise.

After bathing, devotees perform Shiva Puja and worship Goddess Sati, seeking forgiveness for sins and praying for liberation. Reciting the Shiva Purana, chanting Vedic mantras, and donating food, clothes, or money to Brahmins are considered highly meritorious acts on this day.

Manikarnika Snan 2025 is not merely a ritualistic bath, it is a journey of the soul towards purification and liberation. By taking this sacred dip on Vaikuntha Chaturdashi, devotees symbolically cleanse themselves of past karmas and walk closer to the path of moksha under the divine grace of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.
