Dr. Ramesh Pandrinath Gaikwad, a former scholar of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) specializing in International Relations, has now embraced the path of renunciation. Taking on the name Shri Raman Guru Maunagiri, he has been initiated as an International Mahamandaleshwar at the Mahakumbh Mela.
Dr. Gaikwad was previously known for his research on global peace and had written extensively on the subject, including contributions to American Grand Strategy and research papers for American Geographers. His academic journey took him to the United Nations Headquarters in the US, where he worked on international policies.
Maunagiri Ji Maharaj was deeply inspired by Swami Vivekananda’s teachings. His early spiritual inclination developed when he visited the Sant Janardan Swami Ashram in Nashik during his schooling. Exposure to monastic traditions led to his inner transformation, planting the seeds of renunciation early in life.
Despite the promising career opportunities in academia and global organizations, he chose to leave behind material pursuits to embrace spiritual life. He was initiated as a Naga Sanyasi under the Panchadashnam Juna Akhada and will receive his formal certification in Kashi.
Now recognized as an International Mahamandaleshwar, Maunagiri Ji Maharaj has decided to settle in Trimbakeshwar, Nashik. His focus will be on gau seva (cow service) and helping the poor, following the principles of selfless service and renunciation.
