Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh (India): As the much-anticipated Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 commences in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, the local authorities have ramped up security measures to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of this colossal spiritual gathering. The Uttar Pradesh Police have deployed over 10,000 personnel from local police stations, paramilitary forces, and special units to manage the vast crowds and maintain order during the festival.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, a significant event for millions of devotees, is being held at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers at Triveni Sangam. This year’s gathering is particularly special due to a rare celestial alignment that occurs only once every 144 years, adding an extra layer of significance to the occasion.
Maha Kumbh 2025: Stringent Security Arrangements
Authorities have ensured that the security arrangements are robust, with a combination of foot and mounted police deployed across the grounds. Mounted police have been particularly vital for crowd management and patrolling, offering heightened visibility and rapid response capabilities. In total, the police force has mobilized nearly 50,000 personnel for the event.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Vaibhav Krishna stated that while the exact number of devotees who have bathed in the holy Sangam will be calculated later, an estimated 50 lakh people have already participated in the holy 'snan' (dip). Despite the overwhelming crowd, the police are confident that all arrangements for crowd control, parking, and traffic management are functioning smoothly.
Maha Kumbh 2025: Continuous Monitoring for Safety
The police force is also focusing on ensuring the safety of the devotees by closely monitoring potential threats. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajesh Dwivedi assured that all areas, including the ghats where the holy dips are taking place, are under strict surveillance. Security personnel have been tasked with watching out for any miscreants who might disrupt the proceedings. Additionally, police forces have been equipped with advanced resources, including horses' worth ₹1.5 crore to further secure the grounds.
The event has drawn devotees from across the globe, who have come to experience the spiritual significance of the Kumbh Mela. With the first major ‘Shahi Snan’ (Royal Dip) scheduled for January 14, on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, preparations are in full swing to handle the large influx of pilgrims.
