Krishnapingala Sankashti Chaturthi will be observed on Saturday, June 14, 2025, as per the Amanta Hindu calendar. This auspicious tithi falls during Krishna Paksha Chaturthi of the Jyeshtha month (also corresponding to Ashadha month in Purnimanta calendar). On this sacred day, devotees worship a unique form of Lord Ganesha known as Krishnapingala, who is depicted with a dark brown or black complexion.

Who is Krishnapingala Ganesha?

The name "Krishnapingala" derives from the Sanskrit words Krishna (black/dark) and Pingala (brownish). This form of Lord Ganesha represents deep spiritual energy and transformative power. Worshipping Krishnapingala Ganesha is believed to help remove all kinds of obstacles, bring prosperity, and ensure success in every sphere of life.

Sankashti Chaturthi fasts are traditionally broken after sighting the moon in the evening. The exact moonrise time on June 14, 2025, will vary by location, so devotees are advised to check local Panchang or lunar calendar apps for accurate timing.

Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat and Puja Vidhi

On Sankashti Chaturthi, devotees observe a strict fast from sunrise to moonrise. The fast is broken only after offering prayers to the moon and performing Ganesh Puja. Here’s a simple Puja Vidhi:

  • Begin the day with a bath and clean the puja space.
  • Set up an idol or picture of Krishnapingala Ganesha.
  • Offer durva grass, red flowers, modaks, and banana.
  • Perform Shodashopachara Puja (16-step ritual) with devotion.
  • Recite Ganesh Atharvashirsha or Sankashti Vrat Katha.
  • In the evening, after sighting the moon, offer arghya (water offering) to Chandra Deva and break the fast.
Importance of Sankashti Chaturthi

Sankashti Chaturthi, observed every month during Krishna Paksha Chaturthi, is considered one of the most powerful days to seek Lord Ganesha’s blessings. It is believed that chanting Ganapati's name with pure devotion on this day destroys all difficulties and negative karmas. In North India, the Sankashti Chaturthi of Magha month is celebrated as Sakat Chauth, especially by mothers for the well-being of their children. The Bhadrapada month’s Shukla Chaturthi is celebrated as Ganesh Chaturthi, marking the birth of Lord Ganesha with grandeur across India.

Krishnapingala Sankashti Chaturthi is not just a ritual but a spiritual practice of devotion, discipline, and gratitude. Observing this vrat helps cleanse the mind and soul, offering inner strength to overcome life’s hurdles.
