Vinayaka Chaturthi is also known as Ganesh Chaturthi. It is one of the most auspicious festivals dedicated to Lord Ganesha. In 2025, Vinayaka Chaturthi will be observed on Wednesday, Aug 27, 2025. Devotees in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and several other states celebrate this day with devotion, seeking Lord Ganesha’s blessings for wisdom, prosperity, and the removal of obstacles.

Vinayaka Chaturthi 2025 Date and Time

According to the Malayalam calendar, Vinayaka Chaturthi falls during Shukla Paksha Chaturthi in Chingam Masam, the first month of the Malayalam year. The puja timings are as follows:

EventDate and Time
Kerala Vinayaka ChaturthiWednesday, Aug 27, 2025
Madhyahna Puja Time11:06 AM to 1:36 PM
Chaturthi Tithi Begins3:24 PM on August 26, 2025
Chaturthi Tithi Ends5:14 PM on August 27, 2025

These timings are based on local Panchangam calculations for Nakhon Sawan, Thailand. As per tradition, the Madhyahna Muhurat is considered the most auspicious time for performing Ganesh Chaturthi Puja.

Malayalam Calendar and Vinayaka Chaturthi

In Kerala, this festival is widely known as Vinayaka Chaturthi rather than Ganesh Chaturthi. Unlike other Indian states where the celebration follows the Bhadrapada month of the lunar calendar, the Malayalam calendar observes it during Chingam Masam, coinciding with the Simha solar month.

This difference in calculation sometimes leads to the festival being celebrated a month earlier in Kerala compared to the rest of India. However, this is a rare occurrence. Notable years when this happened include 2004, 2012, and 2015.

Vinayaka Chaturthi Significance

Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the giver of wisdom, is worshipped during Vinayaka Chaturthi for success, prosperity, and harmony. In Kerala, devotees observe special pujas, offer modakam, durva grass, and chant Ganesha mantras during this festival. Families and temples prepare elaborate rituals, while many devotees also observe Vinayaka Chaturthi Vrat for peace, happiness, and prosperity in life.

Vinayaka Chaturthi 2025 in Kerala will be celebrated on 27th August, with puja rituals performed during the Madhyahna Muhurat. The unique aspect of this celebration lies in its alignment with the Malayalam calendar, making it distinct from Ganesh Chaturthi in other Indian states.
