Karwa Chauth is observed on Krishna Paksha Chaturthi in the month of Kartik as per the Purnimanta calendar. However, in states following the Amanta calendar like Gujarat, Maharashtra, and South India, it falls in the month of Ashwin. Despite the difference in names, the vrat is observed on the same day across the country.

Significance of Karwa Chauth

The fast of Karwa Chauth is considered extremely strict, as women abstain from food and water from sunrise until the moonrise. It is believed that observing this vrat ensures the long life, health, and prosperity of the husband.

Karwa Chauth is also called Karak Chaturthi, where Karwa (earthen pot) plays a vital role in puja rituals. The Karwa is filled with water and offered as Dan to Brahmins or other women after the rituals.

Regional Observance of Karwa Chauth

While Karwa Chauth is more popular in North Indian states like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi, it is also observed in Maharashtra and other regions. On this day, Vakratunda Sankashti Chaturthi, dedicated to Lord Ganesha, is also celebrated in Maharashtra. Four days after Karwa Chauth, Ahoi Ashtami is observed for the well-being and long life of sons.

Karwa Chauth 2025 will be observed on 10th October, Friday, with moonrise at 09:01 PM and puja muhurat from 06:08 PM to 07:20 PM. The vrat not only strengthens marital bonds but also holds deep cultural and spiritual significance in Hindu tradition.
