Gundicha Temple Repairs Set for Completion Ahead of Rath Yatra 2025 in Puri

The historic Shree Gundicha Temple in Puri is undergoing a major renovation and beautification drive, set to be completed before the grand Rath Yatra 2025. The restoration is being led by the Shree Jagannatha Temple Administration (SJTA), with a focus on preserving traditional architecture and enhancing the experience for lakhs of devotees expected to attend the annual chariot festival.

One of the key upgrades involves the Megha Nada wall located on the western side of the Gundicha temple. Previously constructed with brick stones, the wall is now being rebuilt using Khondalite stones, which are native to Odisha and commonly used in classical temple construction. The renovation follows the Nagara style of temple architecture, which is characteristic of ancient Indian temple designs.

To support the growing number of pilgrims, an additional information centre will be constructed near the Gundicha temple, complementing the one that already exists. These centres aim to offer visitors easier access to guidance, schedules, and services during the festival period. Further improving the temple environment, special LED display monitors have been installed near the Singha Dwara (Lion Gate). These screens will broadcast crucial details about Niti Kanti (daily rituals) and other spiritual events taking place at the Shree Jagannatha Temple (Srimandir).

The SJTA's initiative to beautify the Gundicha temple premises is part of a broader effort to prepare the sacred site for Rath Yatra 2025, ensuring that the temple reflects the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Odisha. This yearly chariot festival, which attracts millions from around the world, begins and ends at the Gundicha Temple—making its readiness both symbolic and essential. As the Rath Yatra approaches, the restoration work stands as a testament to Odisha’s commitment to safeguarding its spiritual landmarks, enhancing pilgrim facilities, and celebrating the timeless traditions of Lord Jagannath’s divine journey.
