The BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi celebrated its first Patotsav in a grand and memorable manner, welcoming over 10,000 devotees, volunteers, and well-wishers. The event marked the anniversary of the temple’s inauguration, honouring a year of spiritual growth and unity.
The Patotsav is a significant occasion commemorating the Pran Pratishtha, or consecration, of the deities housed in the temple's central shrine. The day featured elaborate rituals, prayers, and cultural festivities aimed at reaffirming faith and devotion.
The celebrations began before sunrise as hundreds of volunteers and devotees gathered at 4:00 AM to prepare for the Mahapuja, a sacred prayer ritual seeking blessings for peace and prosperity. Speaking about her involvement, Jigisha Joshi, a dedicated volunteer, said, “Serving others in this beautiful Mandir is my way of offering gratitude to God.”
At 6:00 AM, over 1,100 participants joined the Mahapuja, making it a deeply moving spiritual experience. The ritual uniquely combined traditional practices with modern technology, featuring live projections of the ceremonies across the temple, enhancing the experience for everyone present.
Adding to the day’s vibrancy, a Nashik Dhol troupe from Maharashtra delivered a powerful drumming performance. Their beats accompanied the procession of Lord Swaminarayan’s idol as it was ceremonially carried from the Maha Abhishek Sthan to the temple’s central dome, creating an atmosphere of joy and devotion.
A special recitation ceremony followed in the Assembly Hall from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Devotees gathered to chant verses in praise of His Holiness Shastriji Maharaj, the founder of BAPS, whose vision continues to inspire social harmony and spiritual awakening. During the event, attendees also expressed gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan for fostering an inclusive and harmonious environment in the UAE.
Throughout the day, traditional Indian music and dance performances showcased the richness of India’s cultural heritage. Inspired by the ancient Natya Shastra, 224 performers across 19 troupes presented captivating renditions of classical and folk dances such as Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi, Odissi, and more. These performances left the audience enthralled and brought to life the spiritual essence of the occasion.
As the sun set, the Swaminarayan Ghaat became a hub of devotion and cultural splendour. Aartis, or devotional prayers, were performed at 6:00 PM, 7:00 PM, and 8:00 PM, enveloping the temple in a serene and spiritual atmosphere.
Reflecting on the Mandir’s achievements over the past year, Pujya Brahmvihari Swami, the Head of the BAPS Hindu Mandir Abu Dhabi, shared his blessings. “This Mandir is not just an architectural marvel but a beacon of unity and harmony. It has brought people from diverse backgrounds together, inspiring love and inclusiveness. May we all strive to embody these values in our lives,” he said.
He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his unwavering support in making the Mandir a reality. He acknowledged the collective efforts of all volunteers, devotees, and supporters who contributed to this spiritual landmark.
