As Muslims around the world prepare for one of the holiest celebrations in Islam, Bakrid 2025, also known as Eid al-Adha, spiritual anticipation fills the air. In India, the festival will be observed on Saturday, June 7, while Saudi Arabia and some other countries will celebrate it a day earlier, on Friday, June 6. The date difference is due to moon sightings which vary by region.

Eid al-Adha, also called the Festival of Sacrifice, honours the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. As per Islamic belief, just before the act, God provided a ram as a substitute, rewarding Ibrahim’s unwavering faith. This act of devotion is remembered every year through ritual sacrifices.

Eid al-Adha 2025 Date in India and Saudi Arabia

  • Saudi Arabia: June 6, 2025
  • India and several neighbouring countries: June 7, 2025

This variation happens because the Islamic calendar is lunar-based, and the date of Dhul Hijjah 10, which marks Eid, depends on moon sightings.

Arafah Day 2025

The Day of Arafah, considered the holiest day in Islam, will fall on June 6, 2025. It is a vital part of the Hajj pilgrimage, where pilgrims gather on the plains of Arafat near Mecca to pray and seek forgiveness. This day is deeply spiritual and observed with fasting and supplication by those not on pilgrimage. Muslims begin the day with special Eid prayers offered in mosques or large open grounds. After prayers, people greet each other, wear new clothes, and prepare grand meals to share with loved ones.

Eid al-Adha is not just about rituals—it's a time of generosity, compassion, and togetherness. Acts of zakat (charity) are highly encouraged, and many families take the opportunity to donate food, clothes, or money to those in need. The three days following Eid, known as the Days of Tashreeq, are also considered significant. These days are spent in prayer, reflection, and community bonding.

As the festival draws closer, markets across the country are buzzing. From livestock sales to shopping for festive wear, families are making their final preparations. But amid all the excitement, the essence of Bakrid remains rooted in sacrifice, obedience, and love for humanity.
