Donald Trump was on Monday sworn in as the 47th President of the United States of America, marking a remarkable comeback to power after a gap of four years. In his inaugural speech after taking oath, President Trump said he survived the assassination bid against him to serve America.
"I was saved by God to make America great again," Trump said as he referred to the assassination attempt on him in Pennsylvania in July last year.
In his speech that was laden with criticism of the erstwhile administration under President Joe Biden, Trump declared that the "golden age" of America had begun and that the country would soon become "more peaceful, more prosperous and more respected" than it ever was.
Among other measures Trump announced that he would declare a national emergency at the southern border and would allow extractors to "drill baby, drill", a reference to his campaign promise to tap more oil supplies, and claimed that America would soon become a manufacturing powerhouse again.
Trump also announced that the Gulf of Mexico would be renamed to Gulf of America and that US will "take back" the Panama Canal. Trump also announced his plans to direct his cabinet to “defeat inflation” and bring down costs rapidly, attributing the crisis to overspending and rising energy prices.
