US President Donald Trump on January 30 reiterated his threat to slap 100 percent tariff on the BRICS group of countries if they attempted to create their own currency and replace the dollar.
"We are going to require a commitment from these seemingly hostile countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace the mighty U.S. Dollar or, they will face 100% tariffs, and should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful U.S. economy," Trump said on X.
He further said that anu country that tries to replace the dollar can say "..hello to Tariffs, and goodbye to America."
"There is no chance that BRICS will replace the U.S. Dollar in International Trade, or anywhere else, and any Country that tries should say hello to Tariffs, and goodbye to America!" he added.
The idea that the BRICS Countries are trying to move away from the Dollar, while we stand by and watch, is OVER. We are going to require a commitment from these seemingly hostile Countries that they will neither create a new BRICS Currency, nor back any other Currency to replace

Last month, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Shaktikanta Das said India has not taken any steps towards de-dollarisation and is only looking to de-risk domestic trade from geo-political upheavals.
Das stressed de-dollarisation was not on the table.
