Addressing the World Economic Forum in Davos virtually on Thursday, US President Donald Trump asserted that lower oil prices could immediately resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
He said he would ask Saudi Arabia and Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to bring down the cost of oil.
“I'm going to ask Saudi Arabia and OPEC to bring down the cost of oil. You got to bring it down, which, frankly, I'm surprised they didn't do before the election. That didn't show a lot of love by them not doing it. I was a little surprised by that,” Trump said.
“If the price came down, the Russia-Ukraine war would end immediately. Right now, the price is high enough that that war will continue. You got to bring down the oil price, you got to end that war. They should have done it long ago,” he added.
Trump also said he wanted to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin soon to secure an end to the almost three-year-old war with Ukraine, lamenting what he called the huge loss of life.
"I really would like to be able to meet with President Putin soon to get that war ended," he said. "And that's not from the standpoint of economy or anything else. It's from the standpoint of millions of lives are being wasted... It's a carnage. And we really have to stop that war."
Speaking via video conferencing at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, Trump claimed his administration has achieved in four days what other regimes failed to accomplish in four years.
The inauguration of Trump’s second term as president occurred on January 20, the same day the five-day WEF Annual Meeting commenced.
"A golden age of America has begun, our country would be soon stronger, united and more wealthier than ever," he said.
The entire planet will be more peaceful and prosperous as a result of this, he said while talking about the measures he has already announced and the further steps he will be taking going ahead in his second term.
