Kuwait awarded its highest honor, the 'Order of Mubarak Al-Kabeer,' to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts in enhancing the strong relationship between India and Kuwait.
PM Modi received the prestigious award from Kuwait's Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah, at the Bayan Palace.
"I am honoured to be conferred the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Order by His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah. I dedicate this honour to the people of India and to the strong friendship between India and Kuwait," Modi said in a post on X.
The 'Order of Mubarak Al-Kabeer' is a prestigious knighthood awarded by Kuwait.
Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared on X that the honor reflects the enduring friendship between India and Kuwait.
Jaiswal also noted that Prime Minister Modi dedicated the award to the India-Kuwait relationship, the Indian community in Kuwait, and the 1.4 billion people of India.
According to Kuwait's state-run news agency KUNA, the award was conferred on Modi for his efforts in strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.
This is the 20th international honour given to PM Modi by a country, officials said.
The order is awarded to heads of state, foreign sovereigns, and members of royal families as a symbol of friendship.
Previous recipients include prominent leaders like Bill Clinton, Prince Charles, and George Bush.
Prime Minister Modi arrived in Kuwait on Saturday for a two-day visit, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Gulf nation in 43 years.
He was greeted with a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour at the Bayan Palace.
Modi has previously received honors from other Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Bahrain.
In November, Guyana and Dominica conferred their top awards on Prime Minister Modi for his contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic and his exceptional contributions to the global community and efforts in strengthening bilateral ties with the two Caribbean nations.
In the same month, Nigeria conferred its national award – the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger – on Prime Minister Modi for his statesmanship and stellar contribution to fostering bilateral ties, making him the second foreign dignitary to receive the distinction.
