Indian-origin entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy has announced his candidacy to serve as the next Governor of Ohio, earning an endorsement from US President Donald Trump.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk, too, expressed his support for Ramaswamy, despite reports of a rift between the two following the latter’s departure from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Musk, who currently leads DOGE under Trump administration, took to X to endorse Ramaswamy, stating, "Good luck, you have my full endorsement!" In response, Ramaswamy replied, "Thank you, Elon. Let’s roll!”
Rumors of a fallout between Musk and Ramaswamy surfaced following the latter’s announcement that he was leaving DOGE. However, the Indian-origin billionaire refuted these claims.
Dismissing speculation about tensions with Musk, Ramaswamy told Fox News, “I think that’s incorrect. But what I would say is, we had different and complementary approaches. I focused more on a constitutional law, legislative-based approach. They focused more on a technology approach, which is the future approach.”
On being asked whether Musk fired him, Ramaswamy said, “No, we had a mutual discussion. We are on the same page. Divide and conquer. In saving the country, it’s not a one-man show from the top down or the bottom up. It’s all of the above. And that’s what I’m for."
Ramaswamy’s campaign will be shaped by the senior political advisers of Vice President JD Vance, who once represented Ohio in the US Senate.
“I am running to be the next Governor of a great state at the heart of the greatest nation known to mankind, the state where I was born and raised, the state where Apoorva and I raise our two sons today, a state whose best days are still ahead. I am honoured to announce my candidacy to serve as the next Governor of the state of Ohio,” said Ramaswamy while officially launching his campaign.
“I will lead Ohio to be the top state in the country to start and grow a business... We will shred every excess regulation in this state. For every new regulation that gets on the books under my administration, we will require rescinding at least ten others before that regulation hits the books,” he said.
