Autobiographical in nature, Artist Nandini Chirimar’s art is an expression of her thoughts and feelings through mixed media and layering.
Mixed media artist Nandini Chirimar’s artwork acts like a personal diary where thoughts and feelings take a visual, tangible form. Born and raised in Jaipur, Nandini came to the United States in 1987 on a full scholarship from Cornell University and later studied MFA in painting at the Hoffberger School of Painting, Maryland Institute College of Art. Later she spent four years in Japan studying Japanese Woodblock Printing (Moku Hanga) with print artist Taika Kinoshita. Currently she is exploring advanced printmaking techniques at the Manhattan Graphics Center in New York. Her art is acutely personal, layered, and uses a mix of mediums and techniques (such as pen/pencil on Kozo paper, printmaking, threads and photography) to create an inimitable form of beauty. From migration and identity to relationships, grief and death — her work explores such large phenomenon with ease. The artist has shown her work at many international venues, including Twelve Gates Gallery, Philadelphia; Queens Museum of Art, New York and India Art Fair, New Delhi; Loft at Lower Parel, Mumbai; and AHAF Art Fair, Korea to name a few.
