Moneycontrol BureauA legislation has been introduced in the US House of Representatives for doubling minimum salary of H-1B holders to USD 130,000. This will make it difficult for American companies to get more skilled workers from other countries including India. R Chandrashekhar, President of the National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) told News18 that while the Bill could spell gloom for Indian companies, it is difficult for such a Bill to be passed. Nearly 2 million jobs are lying vacant in the US for want to enough skilled people to fill it. Shortage of skills cannot be filled at such a short notice, he said. Chandrashekhar further said that the restriction in the Bill tabled do not really protect interest of American workers as it only applies to certain category of people. This means that workers from categories other than IT will be able to migrate to the US.
