US President-elect Donald Trump is set to be officially sworn in as the 47th president of the United States on Monday. The 78-year-old took part in a series of events and celebrations leading up to his return to Washington DC on Saturday aboard an Air Force One plane sent by President Joe Biden to facilitate his presidential return.
The original inauguration plans have been adjusted due to freezing temperatures, with the ceremony now taking place indoors.
“I have ordered the Inauguration Address, in addition to prayers and other speeches, to be delivered in the United States Capitol Rotunda, as was used by Ronald Reagan in 1985, also because of very cold weather," Trump posted on Truth Social.
"We will open Capital One Arena on Monday for live viewing of this historic event and to host the Presidential Parade. After my swearing-in, I will join the crowd at Capital One," Trump said.
He and Vice President-elect JD Vance are now expected to take their oaths in the Rotunda, with Trump's team in discussions about possibly holding some of the festivities at the arena, according to US broadcaster CNN.
