Delta Flight 4819, traveling from Minneapolis to Toronto, encountered severe difficulties upon landing.

Delta Air Lines is offering $30,000 apiece to each passenger who was aboard Delta Flight 4819, which crash-landed and flipped upside down at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday. The airline's offer has sparked attention, though it remains unclear how passengers can claim the money, as reported by NBC News.

Crash details and the aftermath

Delta Flight 4819, traveling from Minneapolis to Toronto, encountered severe difficulties upon landing. The CRJ-900 aircraft burst into flames and flipped upside down on the runway at approximately 2:15 p.m. local time. The incident involved 76 passengers and four crew members, all of whom were left suspended by their seat belts when the plane came to a stop.

Though there were no fatalities, 21 passengers sustained injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals. Fortunately, none of the injuries were life-threatening. By Wednesday morning, all but one of the injured passengers had been released from the hospital, according to Delta Air Lines.

Delta’s response and the $30,000 offer

Delta Air Lines is offering each of the 76 passengers a $30,000 payout. If all passengers accept the offer, the total payout would amount to nearly $2.3 million. The airline’s representatives have assured customers that this offer “has no strings attached” and does not affect their legal rights.

Weather conditions and the investigation

At the time of the crash, weather conditions at Toronto Pearson were clear, although wind gusts up to 40 mph were reported. Earlier storms had deposited nearly 2 feet of snow at the airport, but there was no snow present when the accident occurred. Deborah Flint, President and CEO of Toronto Pearson International Airport, declined to speculate on the causes of the crash or the conditions of the runway.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, with support from the US National Transportation Safety Board.
