The past decade or more has witnessed a surge in the number of startups in India, across various industries, as several IIT and IIM graduates have opted to begin from scratch, instead of taking the corporate route.
The startup journey for many, however, has not proven to be a bed of roses and Unacademy CEO Gaurav Munjal offered a piece of advice to startup founders recently, urging them to not do it for the wrong reasons and stay patient about the company's growth.
Writing on X (formerly Twitter), Munjal said that building business in India was a "long game" and admitted that it took 15-20 years to build an "iconic company".
"Founders don’t realise this on Day One but building a Business in India is a Long Game. Takes 15-20 years to build an Iconic Company," Munjal wrote on Wednesday.

Munjal's post saw a lot of replies from users, many of whom agreed with his suggestion.
"Remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. The founders who stay committed for the long haul, who adapt & grow with their vision, are the ones who will shape the future & build the icons of tomorrow," one user wrote.
"Absolutely true, in fact I feel we are first generations building dynamic startups at this pace and scale, before this it wasn't considered in the way which we are doing it now," another user wrote.
"Absolutely! Building a lasting business in India requires patience and commitment," a third user wrote.
