Palampur is a quaint hill station situated in the Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh, India. Often referred to as the tea capital of north India, Palampur is encompassed by verdant tea plantations and offers panoramic vistas of the Dhauladhar mountain range.

The Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer blockbuster Gadar 2 (2023) was shot across four states. The Pakistani scenes were shot in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh; some scenes have been shot in Ahmednagar, near Pune, in Maharashtra and in Indore and Mandu in Madhya Pradesh. The village scenes of the period drama have been shot in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh.

Getting there 

Palampur is well-connected by road to other cities in Himachal Pradesh and north India. The closest airport is Gaggal Airport in Kangra, about 20 km from Palampur. Numerous taxis and cabs are available from the airport to take you to Palampur.

What to see and do:

Take a stroll or bike ride through the expansive tea gardens that surround Palampur. A number of tea estates such as the Wah Tea Estate offer tours and tastings, enabling travellers to learn about the process of tea production and sample various varieties of tea.

Explore the nearby Kangra Fort, a historic fort which provides unobstructed views of the surrounding valley.

​​Go for a hike in the Dhauladhar mountains. There are a number of trails to choose from, ranging from easy treks to tough expeditions.

Check out the Tashi Jong Monastery, a beautiful Tibetan Buddhist monastery situated on the outskirts of Palampur.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit Palampur is from March to June and September to November. During these months, the weather is pleasant and perfect for sightseeing.
