An alumnus from IIT and IIM has recently revealed that although she has degrees from two of the country's most prestigious institutions, she decided to give up a cushy engineering job and launch a saree brand. Radhika Munshi, the owner of Anorah, took to Instagram to share that her parents wanted her to become an engineer but no amount of money would be worth the thrill of entrepreneurship.
"Five years ago, if someone would have told me you would be selling sarees, I would have laughed," Munshi wrote. "I was the topper at IIM Ahmedabad and at that point, I wanted the highest package. But life takes unexpected turns.. and I’m so happy mine turned out this way."
In separate posts, she added that she started her business two years ago after quitting her high-paying corporate job. "Soon into my job I realised that this corporate 9 to 5 thing is not for me. And being that corporate girlie, I learnt what we corporate girlies don’t have -- a decent brand of sarees that resonates with us," Mushi said. "I took the leap of faith when I left my well-paying corporate job to create my own brand of sarees. I was so scared initially when I would design the sarees. I would wonder if people would even like my sarees."
But things appear to have worked out for Munshi as she claimed to have a steady stream of customers and even return customers.
Her journey struck a chord with other Instagram users.
"You made it to IIT, no one can send you there just like that. You are the hardworking one and now you chose what you love," wrote one user while another commented, "IIT and IIMs are made to create jobs and new companies... Well done on your success."
