India are 87 runs away from winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a brilliant performance with bat and ball on day 3 saw the hosts seize the advantage against Australia in the fourth Test at Dharamsala.
Chasing 106 on a tricky pitch, India were 19/0 at Stumps. Earlier, the Indian bowlers produced a brilliant all-round show to dismiss Australia for 137 in their second innings.
India had started the day on 248/6 in their first innings, 52 runs behind the Australian total. But Ravindra Jadeja (63) and Wriddhiman Saha (32) dug in and took India into the lead. India eventually folded for 332, a lead of 32.
The Indian bowlers brought their A-game after lunch to leave Australia reeling at 92/5 at Tea, before getting rid of danger man Glenn Maxwell (45) to stay on top and bowl out Australia 20 minutes before the close of play.
Splendid pace bowling from Umesh Yadav earned him three wickets wickets while R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja also picked three wickets apiece.
The spinners extracted turn and bounce and only Maxwell was able to combat the bowlers with his aggression. Captain Steve Smith was the most crucial wicket as he was bowled for 17 by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
The Indian chase will be anything but straightforward with spinners Nathan Lyon and Steve O'Keefe looking to emulate their Indian counterparts.
Earlier, Jadeja was given out lbw on the first ball for the day off Cummins, but successfully reviewed the decision. Thereafter, he and Saha held off the bowlers, who grew increasingly frustrated, and kill off Australia's hopes of taking a crucial lead. Jadeja emerged as India's topscorer, ahead of KL Rahul (60) and Cheteshwar Pujara (57)
Jadeja also became only the third player to score 500 runs and take 50 wickets in a season after Kapil Dev and Mitchell Johnson. India have never lost a Test match when Jadeja has scored a half century and will be looking to continue the trend on a pitch that is offering some assistance to both the fast bowlers and the spinners.
Australia were bowled out for 300 on the first day of the match after debutant Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets.
The series is currently tied 1-1.
