Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, revealed on social media that he welcomed a baby boy with his partner, Oliver Mulherin, in February this year, and that their child sleeps in a smart crib made by Cradlewise—an Indian-origin startup. The announcement, made via a post on X (formerly Twitter), came as a surprise to Cradlewise co-founder Radhika Patil, who described it as a moment of validation for her team.
Altman, 39, praised the smart crib while offering practical advice for new parents. “We bought a lot of silly baby things that we haven’t needed. But definitely I recommend a Cradlewise crib and a lot more burp rags than you think you could possibly need,” he wrote.

Cradlewise was founded in 2016 by Radhika Patil and her husband Bharath Patil. The company, which operates in both India and the United States, has developed a smart crib designed to promote better sleep for infants through adaptive technology. According to startup database Founderoo, the prototype for the smart crib was developed in Bengaluru, but Radhika Patil decided to launch the product in the United States.
The couple relocated to the US during the COVID-19 pandemic, taking their two young children along, in order to bring their vision to the American market.
Radhika Patil responded to Altman’s endorsement on X, expressing her gratitude. “Thanks for loving us Sam Altman. The AI god’s trust in the smarts of Cradlewise means a lot to us,” she wrote.

Patil holds a Master’s degree in Electronic Design from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, and a Bachelor’s degree from Stanford University in the United States. According to her LinkedIn profile, she currently serves as co-founder and CEO of Cradlewise and resides in the US.
The idea for Cradlewise was born following the arrival of the couple’s first child, Anushka. The product was designed with the goal of improving infant sleep through early wake-up detection and adaptive rocking. The smart crib is priced at 1,999 US dollars in the United States and approximately 1.5 lakh rupees in India.
