Doctors at a Punjab hospital were confronted with an astonishing array of objects inside a 40-year-old patient's stomach during surgery which included earphones, lockets, screws, rakhis, and more.
The startling discovery came to light as the man was admitted with persistent high fever and stomach discomfort at the Medicity Hospital in Moga. What began as an investigation into stomach pain turned into an unusual medical case, raising questions about the man's mental health.
The patient's ordeal began with complaints of nausea that persisted for over two days. Alarmed by his condition, medical professionals at Medicity Hospital ordered an X-ray scan. What they found left everyone bewildered – a myriad of metallic objects lodged within the man's stomach.
After a three-hour surgery, the medical team managed to extract nearly a hundred items from his digestive tract. Among the curious assortment were earphones, washers, nuts, bolts, wires, rakhis, lockets, buttons, wrappers, and even a safety pin.
Dr. Ajmer Kalra, the hospital's director, expressed his astonishment, noting that this was the first such case he had encountered in his career.
This situation revealed that the man had been grappling with stomach issues for two long years, a period during which he unwittingly carried this bizarre collection within him. While the foreign objects have been removed, the man's health remains precarious.
The prolonged presence of these items in his stomach has triggered additional health complications, according to Dr. Kalra.
The man’s family had no inkling of when or why he had ingested these items. His parents disclosed that he had been battling mental health issues. Days before being admitted to the hospital, he had complained of severe stomach pain and insomnia.
Despite seeking medical assistance prior to this incident, none of the earlier consultations had led to the discovery of the contents within his stomach.
