A group of residents of a housing society in Noida has come up with a novel way to protest the feeding of stray dogs in and around the complex -- they brought cattle into the compound.
The peculiar scene unfolded last Sunday at Ecovillage 2 in Greater Noida West when about a dozen residents began to feed stray cattle and even brought some of them inside the premises, the Times of India reported. The protesting residents reasoned that if dog enthusiasts could freely feed canines, then cows, buffaloes, goats, and other four-legged creatures should also receive their "fair share of hospitality."
To further their unconventional protest, the residents are also planning to build a cattle shed, arrange for fodder and bananas for monkeys, and even hire shepherds to introduce goats and sheep into the gated community. According to them, improper feeding habits have led to an excessive number of stray dogs roaming in and around the housing society, resulting in increased dog-bite incidents. This, they argue, raises questions about why certain animals receive preferential treatment.
The matter was brought to light when a video of the residents attempting to lure stray cattle into the residential complex with food went viral. While the incident left several social media users amused, some viewed this as a "tit-for-tat" strategy, while a few others voiced concerns about the growing discord.

Speaking to the Times of India, a resident said: "We have been troubled by the issue of stray dogs for long. Despite multiple complaints to the maintenance team and sharing videos of dog behaviour with them, nothing concrete has been done. So, this is our way of a symbolic protest — a cattle shed. If stray dogs can roam around the complex, why not cows, buffaloes, and other animals?" He added that at Ecovillage, dog lovers often leave food anywhere, leading to a mess.
Meanwhile, dog lovers insisted they would continue feeding strays as before and supported the decision to assist more animals in distress. "Even the dog lovers will be happy that others in the society are learning from them and feeding the strays," said another resident.
